House Armed Services Panel gives favorable mention to ESI
Thursday, March 25, 2010
The Panel on Defense Acquisition Reform was appointed in March 2009 to carry out a comprehensive review of the defense acquisition system. The review was motivated by a general sense among the members of the House Armed Services Committee (HASC) that the Department of Defense’s acquisition system was not responsive enough to today’s mission needs, not rigorous enough in protecting taxpayers, and not disciplined enough in the acquisition of weapons systems for tomorrow’s wars. The review resulted in the Panel’s interim report, released on March 4, 2010.
ESI contract vehicles recieved favorable mention on page 17 of the report, stating that "With the exception of IT purchased via vehicles like Enterprise Software Initiative contracts, COTS technologies are insufficiently leveraged, excessively tailored, inefficiently tested and delayed."
