Secure Host Baseline (SHB) formally known as DoD Unified Master Gold Disk (UMGD)

July 20, 2015

DoD has developed a standard to provide common "build from" disk images that DoD Components will use as the starting point for creating gold disks to install initial software loads onto DoD computers. Currently, there are a subset of products available. There will be additional products added to the list once those products are approved.

The SHB products can be accessed using a CAC and can be downloaded by anyone at http://iase.disa.mil using the link for "DoD Secure Host Baseline Repository" (*Be sure to choose your DOD EMAIL CA-xx certificate).

It is the responsibility of the Component that desires to use the SHB products to obtain the appropriate DAA approval and to follow their internal policy and guidance before using it on their networks.

Software Self-Audit Checklist

February 26, 2015

DoD ESI developed this Self-Audit Checklist to assist DoD in performing internal license compliance audits and with keeping full and accurate accounts that may be used to properly ascertain and verify numbers of licenses, users or subscription parameters in use. A software audit is a defensible comparison of the actual software programs, quantities, and uses within an organization measured against the contractually authorized software programs, quantities, and uses.

Net-Centricity and ITAM

August 31, 2009

The DoD Net-Centric Data Strategy and Net-Centric Services Strategy outline a framework for supporting Net-Centric Warfare through Net-Centric Operations to provide the right information where needed, and when needed, to achieve information superiority for the nation’s defense. Net-Centric Enterprise Licensing (NCEL) is a new software licensing paradigm that enables DoD to share data for joint operations and with mission partners to implement the Net-Centric Data and Services strategies. Where will the extra money for NCEL come from as IT budgets shrink? The new paradigm makes it imperative for all DoD Components to rationalize IT assets and manage them more efficiently to collectively fund NCEL in support of Net-Centric Operations. ITAM is the process that enables organizations to optimize IT acquisitions through efficient processes and economies of scale.
